Or you put a tape in and it sounds like it's playing backwards?  In the past you probably would have thrown that tape away, or, if it was a special one, spent a couple of hours trying to untangle and rewind it.

THE AUDIO TAPE FIXER from MVI is a repair workstation that holds the tape still for you, leaving your hands free to advance the tape in either direction by turning the spindles manually or with a cordless screwdriver.

Twists in an audio tape can be located and corrected by looping the tape around the spools on the front of the THE AUDIO TAPE FIXER, advancing the tape to the first twist, correcting it by hand and repeating the process.

THE AUDIO TAPE FIXER will hold two cassettes at once, making it possible to transfer a tape from a damaged cassette to a new one.  An aluminum splicing block is attached to the workstation for ease in repairing broken tapes and in transferring tape from one cassette to another.  A sheet of pre-cut splices is included.
